Bus & Coach Hire in Romania

Romania is one of Eastern Europe's most rewarding coach touring destinations, combining the medieval citadels of Transylvania, the painted monasteries of Bukovina, and the vast wetlands of the Danube Delta into itineraries that no other single country can match. Bucharest, the capital, sits at the hub of the national road network and is served by Henri Coanda International Airport (OTP), handling most international group arrivals. The country's mountain roads through the Carpathians are dramatic but require experienced drivers who know the seasonal closures and gradient restrictions.

Romania is an EU member and operators hold EU international transport licences, making cross-border runs to Bulgaria, Hungary, and Serbia straightforward. The country uses the Romanian Leu (RON) and has not yet adopted the Euro, so fixed-price quotes protect you from currency movements. Coach hire demand peaks in summer (June to August) for Black Sea coast resorts and Transylvania tours, and again in December for the famous Christmas markets in Sibiu and Brasov.

common questions

Bus Hire in Romania: Common Questions

The classic Transylvania circuit runs Bucharest to Sinaia (130 km), Brasov, Sighisoara (UNESCO), Sibiu, and back via the Transfagarasan Highway if conditions allow. A midi-coach handles all these roads comfortably. Book a driver who knows the mountain passes -- the Transfagarasan closes in winter.

Yes. Romania is an EU member state and operators hold EU international licences. They regularly run into Bulgaria, Hungary, Serbia, and Moldova. For non-EU Moldova, a brief border crossing applies but is routine for experienced operators.

Bucharest and major cities need 2 to 4 weeks outside peak season. Summer Transylvania tours and Black Sea coast transfers warrant 6 to 8 weeks. Danube Delta operators are limited in number -- book at least 8 weeks ahead for those routes.

Main national roads (DN-series) and motorways handle full-size coaches. Mountain routes in Transylvania and the Carpathians require experienced drivers. The Transfagarasan and Transalpina scenic roads are passable by midi-coaches in summer only.

Romania uses the Romanian Leu (RON) and has not yet adopted the Euro. Quotes from Global Bus Hire are fixed in your preferred currency at the time of booking, so exchange rate fluctuations do not affect your final cost.
