Bus Hire in Bucharest, Romania

Nine hundred and thirty-five rooms. That is the internal scale of the Palace of Parliament, the second-largest administrative building on Earth after the Pentagon, and it sits at the centre of almost every coach itinerary that passes through Bucharest. Nicolae Ceausescu ordered its construction in 1984, tearing down a fifth of the old city centre to make room, and the result still dominates the skyline more than three decades after his fall.

Group transport in the capital usually threads between two very different Bucharests. Lipscani, the Old Town, keeps its narrow 19th-century streets and covered passages, now filled with terraces and bars rather than the merchants who gave it its name. A short drive north, Herastrau Park wraps around a lake and holds the open-air Village Museum, where more than 300 traditional buildings were moved here piece by piece from across the country starting in the 1930s.

Palace of Parliament

Ceausescu's Palace of Parliament covers 365,000 square metres and used, according to some estimates, a fifth of Romania's entire national output in the 1980s to build. Tours run through only a fraction of its thousand-plus rooms, but coach groups can set down directly outside on Bulevardul Unirii, the wide boulevard laid out to lead up to it.

Old Town and Lipscani

Lipscani takes its name from the Leipzig merchants who once traded here, and the district's covered arcades and narrow streets survived both Ceausescu's demolitions and decades of post-communist neglect before a 2000s restoration turned it into the city's main evening destination. Coaches typically drop groups near Universitatii Square, a short walk from the old merchant quarter.

Herastrau Park and the Village Museum

Herastrau Park's lake covers around 74 hectares, ringed by walking paths, restaurants, and Bucharest's most-used green space. Inside it, the Village Museum relocated over 300 authentic rural buildings, churches, windmills, farmhouses, from every region of Romania, a project begun in 1936 and still one of the largest open-air ethnographic museums in Europe.

What Bus Hire Costs in Bucharest

As a rough guide, a minibus (up to 19 seats) in Bucharest runs around 950 to 1,600 RON per day, a midi-coach (around 29 seats) around 1,600 to 2,700 RON per day, and a full-size coach (49 seats) around 2,400 to 3,900 RON per day. Bucharest carries Romania's highest coach prices, and conference season each autumn adds a second demand peak alongside the summer months.
