The Hague and the surrounding South Holland countryside offer some of the most elegant wedding venues in the Netherlands: moated castles, dune-side estates, and beach pavilions within 15 to 25 kilometres of the city centre. Kasteel Duivenvoorde at Voorschoten (12 kilometres north-east via the A4) is one of the most requested castle wedding venues in the Netherlands: a medieval moated castle in landscaped grounds with an orangery and formal garden.
The coast at Scheveningen and Kijkduin, 5 kilometres west of the city centre, has a concentration of beach-terrace and pavilion venues with sea views -- practical for summer weddings and fully accessible by coach along the coastal boulevard. In the wooded dune landscape north of Scheveningen, the Duinrell estate at Wassenaar and Landgoed Clingendael are used for private events in their grounds.
Kasteel Duivenvoorde at Voorschoten is 12 kilometres north-east of The Hague city centre, about 15 to 20 minutes by coach via the A4 or the N44. The castle has a licensed ceremony room in the orangery and reception capacity in the formal rooms and garden terraces. The Kaag islands area (30 kilometres north-east via the N206 and N207) has waterside venues including Huys Ter Duin and Ridderhof. Coach access to Voorschoten and the Kaag area is straightforward via the A4/A44 corridor. For the Ridderhof at Gytsjerk area (further north), we advise smaller minibuses for the approach across the polder roads.
Scheveningen is The Hague's North Sea resort district, 5 kilometres west of the Binnenhof. The beach boulevard (Kuststraat and Strandweg) has several beach pavilion and terrace venues facing the sea: the Harbour Club Scheveningen, the Kurhaus hotel (the grand 1885 seaside hotel used for receptions), and a range of smaller pavilions along the pier. Coach access is via the Scheveningen Kustroute or the Westduinweg coastal road. Kijkduin (7 kilometres south-west) has a quieter set of beach venues in a protected dune setting, favoured for smaller, more private receptions.
The Hague city hall (Stadhuis) on the Spui is the principal civil registry for the city. It is in the city centre, directly accessible by coach via the Koninginnegracht or the Spui approach road. A number of historic palaces and mansions in the Plein and Lange Voorhout area are available for receptions: the Hotel Des Indes on the Lange Voorhout (a 19th-century royal palace converted to a hotel) is among the most prestigious reception venues in The Hague. Coach drop-off for the historic centre is on the Lange Voorhout or the Plein.
