The Hague combines the character of a European political capital with the straightforward appeal of a North Sea beach resort within 5 kilometres. Scheveningen's beach boulevard is the most popular evening destination for stag and hen groups: bars, the Holland Casino, beach clubs, and a wide range of restaurants and terraces all within a 10-minute walk of the waterfront.
The city centre offers the Plein bar district (a large square lined with terraces at the heart of the historic government area) and the Frederikstraat and Grote Marktstraat shopping and bar corridor. The Hague is compact and walkable within the centre, but a minibus is practical for moving between the city centre and Scheveningen at the start and end of the evening.
Scheveningen's Kuststraat and Strandweg are lined with beach clubs, restaurants, and bars facing the North Sea. The Pier at Scheveningen (the landmark iron pier extending into the sea) has bars and views across the beach. Holland Casino Scheveningen on the Kurhausweg is open until 03:00 and includes restaurant and bar facilities. The Bleyenberg square in Scheveningen village (200 metres inland from the beach) has a cluster of Dutch bruin cafe-style bars. In summer, Scheveningen beach is one of the most popular outdoor bar and beach party venues in the Netherlands, with pop-up terraces along the sand. Coach access to the Scheveningen beach front is via the Kustroute; parking for drivers waiting during a beach evening is on the Zwolsestraat side approach.
The Plein is a large square 200 metres from the Binnenhof, surrounded by terrace bars and restaurants. It is the standard starting point for city centre stag and hen evenings: outdoor in summer (April to September), covered terrace year-round. The Grote Marktstraat, a pedestrianised shopping and bar street, runs south from the Plein to the Spui. The Bierkade canal-side street in the Rivierenbuurt district (15 minutes' walk east) has a more local Dutch bar and bruin cafe atmosphere favoured by those who want to avoid the tourist concentration around the Plein.
Delft (10 kilometres south-east) is a very practical half-day or full-day addition to a Hague stag or hen weekend. The Haagsche Brouwerij microbrewery and the Bierfabriek beer hall in The Hague itself offer brewing tours and beer tastings. In Delft, the Delft historic centre with its canal bridges, the Nieuwe Kerk, and the Vermeer Centrum (the artist's birthplace) make for a culturally engaging afternoon before returning for the evening bar circuit. A minibus between The Hague and Delft takes 15 minutes each way; the Delft old town centre is car-free so groups walk from the coach park near the station.
