Getting guests between Lisbon city hotels and outlying palace and quinta venues is the main logistics challenge. A 16-seat minibus or a 35-seat midi-coach covers most wedding guest shuttles comfortably; full-size coaches suit larger parties from city hotels to Sintra or the Setúbal Peninsula.
Sintra, 28 kilometres north-west of Lisbon via the A37 and A16 motorways (approximately 35 minutes), is a UNESCO World Heritage Cultural Landscape centred on its royal palaces and forested hillside estates. The Palácio Nacional de Sintra in the town centre and the Palácio Nacional da Pena on the hilltop above are public monuments, but several surrounding private quintas and manor houses hold licensed event facilities: Quinta de Monserrate (the restored 19th-century palace gardens available for licensed private events), the Tivoli Palácio de Seteais (a grand 18th-century palace hotel with terrace gardens and licensed event space), and the Penha Longa Resort (a five-star hotel within the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park with a chapel, ballroom, and three golf courses). Coach access to Sintra town is via the IP9 and the Avenida Desidério Cambournac approach; large vehicles cannot enter the old town centre, so guests alight at the town edge and walk 300 metres to the palace area.
Palácio Nacional de Queluz, 15 kilometres north-west of central Lisbon via the A37 (15 to 20 minutes), is a late Baroque royal palace whose gardens and outer wing rooms are available for licensed private events. It is one of the most accessible palace venues in the Lisbon area for large guest coaches: the palace approach road alongside the Jardim de Neptuno has coach drop-off points and a parking area within 200 metres. Along the Estoril Coast (Cascais/Estoril), the Grande Real Villa Italia, the Hotel Palácio Estoril, and several Cascais quintas host weddings with Atlantic garden settings. The N6 coastal road from Lisbon to Cascais (30 kilometres) takes 30 to 45 minutes and is the standard route for Estoril Coast venue transfers.
The Arrábida Natural Park coastline, 40 to 50 kilometres south of Lisbon via the A2 and A12 bridges (35 to 50 minutes), has private quinta and cliff-top estate venues with views over the protected turquoise waters of the bay. Quinta do Torneiro (Palmela) and Quinta do Pisão (near Cascais) are two of the better-known event quintas in the wider Setúbal Peninsula area. The Arrábida coast roads are narrow, particularly on the Serra da Arrábida ridge; minibuses and midi-coaches are strongly preferred over full-size coaches for the final approach to cliff-top venues. For guests staying in Lisbon, coaches travel to Setúbal and park near the town while a smaller shuttle serves the cliff-top venue.
