Lisbon Humberto Delgado Airport (IATA: LIS), also known as Portela Airport, is 7 kilometres north of the city centre and roughly 15 to 20 minutes by coach via the Segunda Circular and the Avenida Almirante Gago Coutinho. It is one of the most conveniently located major European hub airports relative to its city centre. For international groups, LIS handles direct long-haul routes to North America, South America, Africa, and the Middle East alongside its extensive short and medium-haul European network.
The airport has two main terminals: Terminal 1 for most commercial flights and Terminal 2 for low-cost carriers. Both share the same road access and coach bay area on the departure level. Drivers meet arriving groups in the designated meeters area on the arrivals floor with a name board after bags are collected.
The standard run from LIS arrivals to the main hotel zones (Baixa/Chiado, Bairro Alto, Belém waterfront, Parque das Nações) is 7 to 15 kilometres, taking 20 to 30 minutes in normal traffic. The Segunda Circular ring road and the tunnel under the airport site give direct access to the city's main hotel corridors. For groups checking into hotels in the Baixa or Chiado district, the approach via the Avenida da Liberdade and the Rua Garrett is the clearest coach route. Belém hotel and venue transfers add a further 5 to 8 kilometres along the riverside N6 from the city centre.
Sintra (28 kilometres) is reached via the A37 and A16 motorways from the airport, taking approximately 35 to 45 minutes. Cascais (30 kilometres) is reached via the A5 motorway, approximately 35 minutes. The Estoril coast hotels from Estoril to Cascais are a popular base for Lisbon region weddings and corporate retreats: the journey from LIS to Cascais via the A5 avoids the city centre entirely. For groups arriving for golf or resort stays at Quinta da Penha Longa or Bela Vista Hotel & Spa, the A16 motorway to the IC19 is the direct route from the airport.
Setúbal (50 kilometres south via the A2 motorway and the Ponte 25 de Abril or the A12 Vasco da Gama bridge, approximately 40 to 50 minutes) is the gateway to the Arrábida Natural Park and the Palmela wine country. Groups based in Setúbal or at Arrábida beach resorts transfer directly from LIS without entering the city. The Vasco da Gama bridge route (A12 from LIS south, 18 kilometres of bridge over the Tagus estuary) is the fastest route to the Setúbal Peninsula from the airport, adding approximately 10 minutes compared to the Ponte 25 de Abril but avoiding city-centre traffic entirely.
