Porto is the home of FC Porto, one of Europe's most successful clubs and a six-time semi-finalist or better in the UEFA Champions League. The Estádio do Dragão (officially Estádio Municipal do Porto, capacity 50,399), opened for Euro 2004 in the Antas district of eastern Porto, is the primary venue for Champions League fixtures and Porto's Primeira Liga home matches. The stadium sits alongside the Estádio do Dragão Metro station on line E (the green line), making it one of the best-connected stadia in Portugal for arriving supporters.
Boavista FC plays at the Estádio do Bessa (officially Estádio do Bessa Séc. XXI, capacity 28,264) in the Boavista district, 5 kilometres north-west of the city centre. Porto's two clubs rarely meet in the Primeira Liga but both attract UK and European supporter tours regularly.
The Estádio do Dragão is in the Antas district, 5 kilometres east of Porto city centre via the Via de Cintura Interna ring road, adjacent to the Estádio do Dragão Metro station (line E, green). Coach access is via the Avenida Dr. Antunes Guimarães on the north side of the stadium. For European away fixtures, visiting supporter coaches use the north stand approach with a separate coach bay signposted from the A20. The stadium was designed by Manuel Salgado and Rui Canha and was one of the Euro 2004 venues, hosting a semi-final. Post-match departure is via the designated coach exit on the east side, typically available 30 to 40 minutes after the final whistle.
The Estádio do Bessa is in the Boavista district, 4 kilometres north-west of Porto centre via the Avenida da Boavista. It is easily accessible by coach from the main hotel zones (city centre hotels via the Boavista avenue take 10 to 15 minutes; Matosinhos hotels via the A28 take 15 to 20 minutes). The Boavista area is also home to the Casa da Música concert hall, making it a practical area for combined sports and evening entertainment programmes.
For FC Porto away fixtures in Lisbon (311 kilometres south via the A1 motorway, approximately 3 hours by coach), Braga Sporting CP's Estádio Municipal de Braga (55 kilometres north via the A3, approximately 45 minutes), and Guimarães Vitória SC's Estádio D. Afonso Henriques (50 kilometres north-east via the A3/IP4, approximately 45 to 50 minutes), supporter coach hire is the standard arrangement. The A1 between Porto and Lisbon is the most-used away coach route in Portuguese football. Coaches for Lisbon away fixtures typically depart 4 to 5 hours before kick-off and return directly after the final whistle.
