The Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art (Museu de Arte Contemporânea) in the Serralves Park (Parque de Serralves) is 5 kilometres west of Porto centre via the Avenida da Boavista. The museum, designed by Álvaro Siza Vieira and opened in 1999, holds the most significant collection of post-1960 Portuguese and international contemporary art in the country. The surrounding Serralves Park has Art Deco gardens, a farm park, and woodland trails used for outdoor education sessions. The Bom Jesus do Monte Baroque sanctuary above Braga (5 kilometres, accessible by the famous hydraulic funicular) is a curriculum-compatible site for religious studies and art history groups.
