Graz supports two professional football clubs in the Austrian Bundesliga (top division): SK Sturm Graz and Grazer AK 1902, giving the city a football culture that exceeds its size. SK Sturm Graz plays at the Merkur Spielfeld (previously Stadion Liebenau, capacity 15,500) in the Liebenau district south of the city. Grazer AK plays at the Weinzodl Stadion (capacity 15,500) in Graz-Weinzodl.
Beyond football, Graz has a strong ice hockey culture through the Graz 99ers, competing in the Austrian Ice Hockey League and the EBEL pan-European competition, playing at the Eisstadion Graz (capacity 4,000). Athletics meets are held at the Leichtathletikstadion on the Messeplatz.
The Merkur Spielfeld is 5 kilometres south of the Hauptplatz in the Liebenau district, about 15 minutes by coach via the Liebenauer Hauptstrasse. On matchdays, the approach roads around the stadium (Sturzgasse, Liebenauer Hauptstrasse) have police-managed pedestrian zones from 90 minutes before kick-off. Coaches drop supporters at the Liebenauer Hauptstrasse or the Sturzgasse perimeter and collect post-match at agreed points. For away supporter groups travelling to Graz, we provide transport with police liaison for Category C fixtures. SK Sturm has appeared in European competition (UEFA Europa League and Conference League) in recent seasons, generating larger away supporter groups.
Grazer AK 1902 (Grazer Athletiksport-Klub) plays at the Weinzodl Stadion in the Weinzodl district, 5 kilometres north-east of the city centre. Coach access is via the B67 Kaiserstrasse and the Jakomini district approach. GAK has a significant following in the eastern Styrian region and played in the Austrian top flight until the early 2000s. For cross-city derby fixtures between Sturm and GAK, transport logistics on the day require separate routing for home and away supporter groups. We cover regular-season and cup fixture transport for both clubs.
The Graz 99ers play at the Eisstadion Graz (Liebenauer Eislaufanlage) adjacent to the Merkur Spielfeld. Ice hockey matches run from September to April. For ski sports, the nearest downhill skiing area to Graz is the Schockel (1,445m, 20 kilometres north, about 30 minutes by coach) for day skiing by clubs and schools. The Stubalpe area (50 kilometres west via the A2, about 45 minutes) has a larger ski resort with better lift infrastructure for groups. Winter sports transfer coaches from Graz hotels to Schockel or Stubalpe are a standard offering in the November to March period.
| Vehicle type | Approx. daily range |
|---|---|
| Minibus (8--16 seats) | around 70 to 160 EUR |
| Coach (24--35 seats) | around 130 to 290 EUR |
| Full-size coach (49--70 seats) | around 200 to 440 EUR |
City hotel to Merkur Spielfeld and Weinzodl Stadion shuttles are at the lower end. Away fixture coaches and ski resort day transfers are at the higher end. Sturm-GAK derby dates carry a premium for logistics planning.
