Graz has a genuinely distinctive festival calendar anchored in contemporary art and cultural innovation. La Strada Graz, held in late July and early August, is one of the leading international street arts and circus festivals in the German-speaking world: free outdoor performances across the old town squares and alongside the Mur river, with international circus, theatre, and street music companies. Steirischer Herbst (Styrian Autumn), held in October, is a major contemporary arts festival with performances in the Kunsthaus, the Schauspielhaus, and outdoor locations across the city.
Springfestival, the city's electronic music and arts festival held at the Messe Graz in May or June, has established Graz as a destination on the European electronic music calendar. Jazz Graz, held in October, brings international jazz artists to the Congress Graz and the Dom im Berg (an underground performance space inside the Schlossberg).
La Strada takes place across the Graz old town: the Hauptplatz, the Mariahilferplatz, the Lendplatz on the west bank, the Schlossberg surroundings, and the Mur riverbanks. Because performances are spread across multiple outdoor sites simultaneously, groups attending La Strada typically move on foot between the old town sites but use a coach for arrival from outer city hotels or from outside Graz. Coach access to the old town perimeter (Glacisstrasse, Andreas-Hofer-Platz) takes 10 to 15 minutes from city hotels. For groups travelling from Salzburg, Vienna, or Ljubljana to attend La Strada for the day, we run inter-city coach transfers on festival dates.
Steirischer Herbst (Styrian Autumn) runs for approximately four weeks in September and October. The principal venues are the Kunsthaus Graz (contemporary art museum on the Lendkai, 1 kilometre from the old town), the Schauspielhaus (theatre, Hofgasse), the Orpheum (music venue, Orpheumgasse), and outdoor installations across the city. Coach transfers for groups attending the Steirischer Herbst programme typically cover airport-to-hotel transfers for out-of-town delegates and hotel-to-venue shuttles for evening performances. The Kunsthaus has coach drop-off access from the Keplerstrasse approach.
Springfestival uses the Messe Graz exhibition halls and outdoor Messeplatz for its electronic music programme (typically 3 days in late May or early June). Coach access to the Messeplatz is from the Lazarettgurtel or Messendorfer Strasse. Post-festival pickups run at midnight and 02:00 from the Messeplatz coach zone. Jazz Graz in October uses the Congress Graz and the Dom im Berg -- the underground cavern performance space inside the Schlossberg accessible from the Kaiser-Franz-Josef-Kai riverside tunnel entrance. The Dom im Berg approach road is narrow; we advise minibuses (up to 24 seats) for direct drop-off at the tunnel entrance.
| Vehicle type | Approx. daily range |
|---|---|
| Minibus (8--16 seats) | around 80 to 170 EUR |
| Coach (24--35 seats) | around 140 to 310 EUR |
| Full-size coach (49--70 seats) | around 220 to 470 EUR |
City hotel to festival venue shuttles are at the lower end. Inter-city transfers for La Strada from Vienna or Salzburg, and multi-day Springfestival service, are at the higher end.
