Terezin (Theresienstadt, 65 kilometres north of Prague via the D8, approximately 55 minutes) is a former Habsburg fortress town that served as a Nazi concentration camp and transit ghetto: approximately 150,000 Jews passed through; 33,000 died there, and the majority were transported to Auschwitz. Kutna Hora (80 kilometres east via the D11, approximately 1 hour) contains the Bone Church (Sedlec Ossuary, decorated with the remains of approximately 40,000 people) and the Cathedral of St Barbara, a UNESCO site.
