Tychy is one of the two planned socialist cities of post-war Poland (alongside Nowa Huta near Krakow), built from 1950 as a model workers' city for the Silesian coal and steel industries. Today it is home to the Tychy Brewery (Kompania Piwowarska), operating on the site of a brewery founded in 1629 -- one of the oldest continuously operating breweries in Poland and the producer of Tyskie, Poland's best-selling lager. The brewery's visitor centre and guided tours make it a popular corporate hospitality and group excursion destination in Upper Silesia.
Tychy is 25 km south of Katowice Airport (KTW) and 15 km south of Katowice city centre, positioned at the south-western edge of the Silesian Metropolis. The Paprocany Lake district in the city's south provides water sports, cycling tracks, and a beach area. The Beskidy Mountains begin 30 km further south via Bielsko-Biala.
The Tychy Brewery has operated on Ul. Browarowa since 1629 under various owners; the current Kompania Piwowarska brand (producer of Tyskie, Lech, and Redd's) runs guided brewery tours through the historic 19th-century red-brick brewhouse, the modern production hall, and the visitor centre with a tasting room. Tours are available in Polish and English and can be booked for groups of 10 to 100 people. Corporate hospitality packages include private tastings, lunch, and transport coordination. The brewery is 2 km from the city centre; coach parking is on-site at the brewery gate.
Paprocany Lake, in Tychy's southern district, is a 120-hectare reservoir with a sand beach, watersports hire, and a 10 km cycling and walking path around the perimeter. Pedalos, kayaks, windsurfers, and sailing dinghies are available to hire during the summer season (May to September). The lake is a popular day destination for families and corporate team-building groups from Katowice. Coach drop-off is at the main beach car park on Ul. Harcerska.
Tychy's position at the southern tip of the Silesian Metropolis gives coach access to all the major cities of the conurbation: Katowice (15 km north), Sosnowiec (25 km north-east), Gliwice (35 km north-west), and Pszczyna (20 km south-east via the DK1). Corporate delegate transfers for the Spodek arena and Katowice International Conference Centre, brewery hospitality shuttles, and Pszczyna palace excursions are the main booking categories from Tychy.
As a rough guide, a minibus (up to 19 seats) in Tychy runs around 1,060-1,870 PLN per day, a midi-coach (around 35 seats) around 1,790-3,280 PLN per day, and a full-size coach (49 to 55 seats) around 2,660-4,980 PLN per day. Tychy is well-served by the Katowice operator pool. Brewery tour peak periods (spring corporate season April to June, autumn October to November) require 3 to 4 weeks advance notice.
