Group Travel Guide: Paris

Paris receives more international visitors than any other city in Europe and is among the most coach-intensive destinations in the world. Its narrow historic streets, strict emission zone rules, and well-defined coach drop zones mean the city rewards groups that arrive with a plan. This guide covers the practical specifics: where coaches can go, how to arrive from CDG and Orly, and what the best day-trip options look like from a transport perspective.

Arriving at CDG and Orly

Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) is 25 km northeast of central Paris via the A1. The standard journey time in light traffic is 35 to 50 minutes. In morning rush hour (7am to 9am) and evening rush hour (5pm to 7:30pm), allow 75 minutes. CDG Terminal 2 has designated coach collection areas on the arrivals level of each sub-terminal (2A, 2C, 2E, 2F). Terminal 1 has a coach bay on the lower ground level.

Orly Airport is 14 km south of Paris, closer to the city but not covered by the RER B line and therefore more coach-dependent for group arrivals. Coaches collect from the designated bus and coach area on the south side of the Orly 4 terminal.

See our Paris bus hire page for operator options covering both airports.

The ZFE and Crit'Air Zones

Paris's Zone a Faibles Emissions (ZFE) covers the area within the Boulevard Peripherique. Coaches must display a valid Crit'Air vignette. Euro 6 diesel coaches receive a Crit'Air 1 sticker and can circulate without restriction. All operators in our Paris network run compliant vehicles. The vignette must be displayed on the windscreen during any journey within the zone.

Coach Access at Key Sites

Eiffel Tower: Designated coach drop and collection on Quai Branly, the road running along the Seine on the south side of the Champ de Mars. Coaches are not permitted to stop on the Champ de Mars grass areas or on Avenue Gustave Eiffel.

Louvre: Coach drop on Rue de Rivoli (north side of the Tuileries) or on Quai des Tuileries (south side along the Seine). There is no coach bay directly in front of the Pyramid entrance on the Cour Napoleon.

Notre Dame de Paris: Under reconstruction following the 2019 fire, with reopening expected in late 2024. Coach access on Quai de la Tournelle and Quai de Montebello (south bank).

Sacre Coeur / Montmartre: Coaches cannot ascend the Butte Montmartre due to width restrictions. Drop point on Boulevard Rochechouart or Place de Clichy. Passengers walk or take the funicular.

Versailles day trip: From central Paris, 25 to 35 minutes via the A13 or N10. Coach parking at the Grande Ecurie adjacent to the palace main forecourt. Timed group entry tickets must be pre-booked.
