Copenhagen is Scandinavia's most visited capital and one of Northern Europe's busiest group travel markets. The city sits on the eastern shore of Zealand, connected to Malmo in Sweden by the 16-kilometre Oresund Bridge. Copenhagen Airport Kastrup (CPH) is 9 kilometres south-east of the city centre via the E20 motorway and the coastal road, approximately 20 to 30 minutes by coach. The airport is the busiest in Scandinavia and handles a high volume of group arrivals for events, conferences, and incentive travel.
Copenhagen operates a Low Emission Zone (LEZ) covering the inner city streets. Euro 6 diesel coaches and hybrids enter freely. The city has dedicated coach parking areas near its principal tourist sites: Kongens Nytorv and Nyhavn, Tivoli Gardens, Christiansborg Palace, and the Frederiksberg area. English is spoken universally by operators and drivers throughout greater Copenhagen.
Kastrup Airport (CPH) has three terminals: T1 handles Schengen arrivals, T2 handles non-Schengen international and charter, and T3 (the main departures hall) connects to the Metro City Ring. For coach groups, the dedicated coach bay is on the ground floor of T3 on the arrivals side. Journey time to the city centre is 20 to 30 minutes via the Amagerbrogade corridor or the E20/Oresund motorway. Peak traffic on Amagerboulevard between 7am and 9am and between 3pm and 6pm can add 10 to 15 minutes.
Nyhavn (the 17th-century canal lined with coloured townhouses) is Copenhagen's most photographed location. Coaches drop off on Kvaestrhusgade or Havnegade (parallel to the canal); parking in the Kvaestrhusgade bay, approximately 100 metres from the canal. Tivoli Gardens (Vesterbrogade 3, adjacent to Copenhagen Central Station) is the second-oldest operating amusement park in the world. Coach drop-off is on H.C. Andersens Boulevard outside the main west entrance; parking nearby on Axeltorv and the Halmtorvet car park. The Little Mermaid statue (Langelinie, 3 kilometres north-east of Kongens Nytorv) has a dedicated coach bay on Indiakaj.
The Bella Center (Arne Jacobsens Alle 2, 6 kilometres south of the city centre, 10 minutes from CPH airport) is Copenhagen's largest congress and exhibition centre, with capacity for 10,000 delegates. It is adjacent to Copenhagen Metro's Bella Center station (M2 line). The Forum Copenhagen (Julius Thomsens Plads 1, Frederiksberg, 3 kilometres west of city centre) handles major concerts and sporting events. Coaches access the Bella Center from the E20 Oresund link and park in the dedicated coach bays on Arne Jacobsens Alle.
As a rough guide, a minibus (up to 19 seats) in Copenhagen runs around 3,200 to 5,600 DKK per day, a midi-coach (around 35 seats) around 5,200 to 9,200 DKK per day, and a full-size coach (49 to 55 seats) around 7,600 to 13,800 DKK per day. Copenhagen is the most expensive coach hire market in Denmark, reflecting high central-city demand and operator costs.
