Entebbe and the Kampala road
Entebbe International (EBB) sits about 40 km from Kampala, and the transfer is the country's first lesson in planning: the expressway has cut the run to under an hour on a good day, but the capital's congestion can still double it at peak. Operators stage airport meets against actual flight times and hold buffer for the evening arrival bank. Kampala itself runs on minibus shuttles between hotels, offices and conference venues.
Gorillas, parks and honest distances
Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, home of the mountain gorillas, is an eight-to-ten-hour drive southwest, so groups either take it as a staged road journey with an overnight en route, or fly to the Kihihi or Kisoro strips and let a 4x4 finish the job; trek permits are booked months ahead and the transport is built around their dates. Murchison Falls to the northwest and Queen Elizabeth park in the west run the same pattern: long tarmac legs by coach or minibus, park roads by 4x4. Jinja, the source of the Nile and East Africa's adventure-sports hub, is the easy exception at about two hours east of Kampala.
