Amilcar Cabral International (SID) on Sal is the busiest gateway, with the Santa Maria resort zone about 20 minutes south; Boa Vista's airport (BVC) sits similarly close to its all-inclusive strip. Both islands run on short transfer blocks timed to the charter banks from Europe. Island tours fill the excursion days: Sal's salt crater at Pedra de Lume and the Buracona blue eye, Boa Vista's dunes and turtle beaches, with 4x4 convoys taking over where the sand starts.
Santiago and Sao Vicente: the culture islands
Santiago holds Praia, the capital, and Cidade Velha, the UNESCO-listed first European colonial town in the tropics, an easy half-day from the city; the mountain interior toward Serra Malagueta rewards a full-day minibus loop. Sao Vicente means Mindelo, the country's music capital and Cesaria Evora's home town, where evening venue runs are as much a part of group logistics as the daytime tours. Island-hopping honestly
Moving between islands means internal flights or, on a few routes, ferries; the dependable group pattern is one or two islands per week rather than a daily hop.
