Festival Bus Hire: Getting Your Group to a Music Festival

A festival coach is one of the cleanest solutions in group transport: everyone leaves together, arrives together, and nobody is driving. There is no car park lottery, no designated driver, no splitting the group across three Ubers. The planning, though, needs to happen earlier than most people expect, and the return journey needs as much thought as the outbound.

Booking Windows by Festival

Festival coaches book fast, and the gap between "decent availability" and "nothing left" is short.

Private Hire vs Shared Shuttle

Shared festival shuttles (sold per seat) are fine for solo travellers but lose their value for a group. A private hire for 30 people is almost always cheaper per seat than 30 individual shuttle tickets, and it gives you departure flexibility, a guaranteed seat, and a driver who knows your group. For groups of 20 or more, private hire is almost always the better choice.

Drop-Off and Access

Glastonbury: The festival operates a designated coach park on the A361 at Cockmill Lane, roughly 1.5 km from the main entrance. Private hire coaches need to pre-register with the Glastonbury transport team to receive an access pass. This is a separate process from the ticket purchase.

Reading and Leeds: Both sites have designated coach access roads and coach parks. Reading coaches approach via the A4 and park in the Rivermead coach facility. Leeds approaches via the A64.

European festivals: Most large European festivals have designated coach and transport areas adjacent to the site. Rock am Ring's Nurburgring site has clear coach parking infrastructure. Primavera Sound at the Parc del Forum in Barcelona uses Zone C of the venue perimeter. See our Germany group transport and Spain coach hire pages for European festival travel.

The Return Journey

The return is where festival transport most often goes wrong. Plan it before you go, not on the last day when people are tired and mobile signals are unreliable.

  • Set a meeting point and departure time before anyone boards the outbound coach
  • Send the meeting point and time to everyone in the group in writing
  • Give the driver a group leader's mobile number as the single contact
  • For multi-day festivals, confirm what time the coach returns and whether anyone staying longer needs alternative transport home

Unlike football matches, there is no statutory prohibition on alcohol on coaches travelling to music festivals in England. Most operators permit it and some prohibit glass containers. Confirm with your operator before the day.

Yes, and it is often better value for groups of 20 or more. A private hire means your own departure time, your own drop point, and a guaranteed seat for everyone in the group.

For same-day events, the driver waits nearby and returns at an agreed time. For multi-day festivals, the driver typically returns home and comes back for the agreed collection time. Confirm this arrangement explicitly at booking.
